The butterfly is locally common in montane forests at moderate elevations (Alt. 20 - 700m).
Males are territorial on trees at hilltops and occur sympatrically with Horaga onyx sardonyx.
Time of male activity is different between the two species. In syrinx from about 11:00 to 14:30 while in onyx from about 15:00 to 16:00.
Cowan (1966) treated the record from Ranong by Godfrey (1930) as ssp.moulmeina.
However, the possibility of ssp.maenala is also considered and needs to be confirmed by reliable specimens.
