The butterfly is common in secondary and montane forests at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 10 - 800m).
Both sexes visit flowers.
The females mimic Parantica aspasia (Danainae).
According to Eliot (1978), Papilio philomela is a synonym of anais and also a homonym.
Therefore, he described a replacement name ♀-f.lutea.
However, after examination of the type specimen in the Banks collection, NHML, it is definitely a female of Pareronia valeria.
Characteristics of anais female ; black stripe in the cell on the UpH and along vein 1c on the UpF are conspicuous, Yellow area on the UpH only into the base of cell and the part of space 2,
and never covers the whole cell and around.
On the other hand, valeria female ; black stripe in the cell on the UpH and along vein 1c on the UpF are obscure, yellow area on the UpH entirely covers the whole cell and around.
Thus, I consider it should be a synonym of valeria.
