Both ssp.polytes and ssp.latreilloides have been obtained sympatrically in some parts of Yunnan, China to Ha Giang, N.Vietnam. Some specimens seem to be intermediate between them, suggesting a hybrid zone. The population in Ha Giang has variable and unstable hindwing markings.
I tentatively treat it as ssp.latreilloides, however the taxon latreilloides may be a synonym of ssp.thibetanus. Further taxonomic study is needed.
