The butterfly is locally uncommon in evergreen montane forests at high elevations (Alt. 1500 - 1800m) and is more cautious than other species.
Males are territorial on trees.
Two spellings of the specific name for this taxon are in use: knyvettii and knyvetti.
The original spelling was knyvettii, but since Fruhstorfer (1898) altered the spelling to knyvetti, this spelling has been used for over a century.
While knyvetti is an Incorrect Subsequent Spelling (ISS) of knyvettii, under the ICZN Code prevailing usage was thought to apply.
However, recent literature and online resources have referred to it as knyvettii, particularly in the 2020s, and relatively few recent works before then discussed this species.
As this practice is expected to increase and prevailing usage cannot apply to the ISS, I will use knyvettii here.
