Notes

The butterfly is uncommon in montane forests at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 30 - 870m). Males are territorial on trees or shrubs at hilltops and fly in circles for long hours in their territory.
Some authors have treated continental populations as ssp.manychus. However, these seem to be included in the nominotypical subspecies, as treated by Eliot (1986:14-15).
The specimens from Chiang Mai have rather different ground colour and markings on the underside. Further taxonomic study is needed.
