The butterfly is not uncommon in montane forest at low to moderate elevations (Alt.30m - 550m).
Yago et al.,2012, based on both morphology and molecular analyses, regarded ipona as a form of nominotypical subspecies.
However, in peninsular Thailand, only ipona form is found in both males and females, and these are stable.
In Malay Peninsula, individuals that are indistinguishable from nominotypical subspecies seem to occur very rarely in mountainous areas.
It is possible that this is regressed and relicty form that inhabits mountainous areas, while ipona may be a population that inhabits mainly lowland areas.
The ratio of this form of occurrence needs to be examined, but as per the traditional classification, I tentatively treat the populations from P.Thailand to W.Malaysia as ssp.ipona.
Further taxonomic study is needed.
