Notes
The butterfly is not rare in montane forest at moderate elevations (Alt.600m - 800m).
All populations in Thailand were considered to be the same taxon.
However the population in Nakhon Nayok is different and was confirmed by a female photo in nature by Mr. Supat Sophonviwatkul on 9.Jul.2010.
It seems to be ssp.meinippus from Vietnam and Laos.
Hitherto, the females from this area were known to have a bright orange band on the UpF.
However, a white banded form was recently discovered, indicating that this population is dimorphic.
I provisionally treat this population as ssp.meinippus.
The record from Cambodia is considered to be this taxon based on its distribution, but should be pending until the female is confirmed.
As noted in the section on ssp.galaesus, further taxonomic studies are needed, such as the relationship with ssp.galaesus.
