The butterfly is uncommon in montane forests at low elevations (Alt. 150 - 450m). Males frequently come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
In Ranong Province, P. Thailand, both the nominotypical subspecies and ssp.sundae have been confirmed. de Jong & Treadaway (1992) recorded ssp.agni in Chanthaburi, S.E. Thailand. However, in our survey, only ssp.sundae has been found in the area so far, suggesting that this may be a misidentification. Further taxonomic and distributional studies are needed.
