The butterfly is locally not rare in montane forests at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 300 - 900m).
Both sexes visit flowers and males frequently come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
They often rest on the underside of leaves with their wings spread.
Males are occasionally territorial on hilltops and fly in circles for long hours in their territory.
Tsukiyama & Chiba,1994 treated this taxon as a seasonal variation of ssp.ortygia.
However, as Evans pointed out, ortina is darker and darker lines are broader than ortygia even in the same season.
