This taxon closely resembles the population in Dong Nai, S.Vietnam and Cotton & Racheli,2006 treated it as a synonym of ssp.duboisi. However, because of the extreme distance between the distributions of intricatus and duboisi, and the lack of specimens from northern to central Vietnam, I tentatively treat intricatus as a subspecies. Further taxonomic study and distributional surveys are needed.
