Notes

The butterfly is locally common in montane forests at moderate to high elevations (Alt. 550 - 2600m) and occurs sympatrically with ila, indicus or eventa. Males are territorial on shrubs or trees. Seasonal and individual variations can be seen. Individuals in the rainy season are slightly larger and more reddish. Even in the same region and same season, there are individuals with short and long tails. Further taxonomic study is needed.
Some specimens from northern Thailand have greenish golden markings on the upperside of both wings and rather narrow red marginal border on the UpH. Its coloration is the same as that of Heliophorus hybrida, without the reddish tinge from all angles. However, these are definitely brahma after examination of male genitalia. Pinratana (1981) and Ek-Amnuay ([2007],2012) recorded hybrida from Thailand but I consider these are all misidentification of brahma, as Kimura et al. (2014) pointed out.
