The taxa mallus and shania differ in male genitalia, the markings on the UpF, and in size.
Thus, I consider them to be separate species.
Furthermore, Miletus bannanus seems to be conspecific with mallus in terms of genitalia and markings characteristics.
However, the UnF markings of bannanus males differ from those of the nominotypical subspecies.
Therefore, I provisionally treat it as a distinct subspecies of mallus.
The taxonomic status of Miletus gethusus (Fruhstorfer, 1915), described from N. Vietnam, was examined.
Comparative study of populations from the Indochina region, including the holotype specimen, revealed that the wing markings of gethusus are identical with those of Miletus shania, rather than Miletus mallus.
Consequently, these two species are treated as Miletus mallus and Miletus gethusus (= shania).
Monastyrskii et al. (2011) recorded this species from Cambodia, and while its distribution suggests it is likely to be this taxon, I was unable to verify the specimens and therefore cannot confirm it.
Further distributional research is needed.
