The butterfly is locally common in montane forests at moderate to high elevations (Alt. 1200 - 1800m).
Males frequently come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
In N.Thailand it was common in the 1980's, but it is uncommon now.
Yokochi (2011) synonymized all taxa of nara with the nominotypical subspecies.
However, it is possible that there are at least two intermingled strains of nara.
These are the nara strain: nara - (anyte ?) - kalawrica and the shania strain: shania and nagaensis.
I suspect that they are different species.
I tentatively treat them as subspecies of nara and follow the conventional classification, but the classification of nara needs to be reviewed in the future, including DNA analysis.
