The butterfly is uncommon in peninsular Thailand and is found in montane forests at moderate elevations (Alt. 550 - 800m).
The species is highly variable and more subject to seasonal and individual variation than to geographic variation.
It is unclear whether this taxon can be clearly separated from ssp.martabana, as Eliot (1969) pointed out.
Further taxonomic study is needed.
