Notes

The butterfly is locally common in montane dense forests mixed with bamboo at moderate elevations (Alt. 300 - 600m) and often comes to rotten fruits that has fallen to the ground. It occurs with S.cambodia, however the species prefer to higher elevations.
For a long time, ssp.siamensis was thought to be the S.E.Thailand population. However, after examination of the type specimen in the NHML, I realized that the spear-shaped black markings on the UpF is not as well developed as in the S.E.Thailand population, and that the N.Thailand population corresponds to siamensis because of its shape. Thus I treat ssp.siamensis as the taxon of N.Thailand, and then the taxon from S.E.Thailand is currently unnamed. In addition, I suspect that this taxon could be a distinct species, based on its distribution and markings. Further taxonomic and distributional studies, including DNA analysis, are needed.
