Notes

The butterfly is locally common in montane dense forests mixed with bamboo at moderate elevations (Alt. 300 - 600m) and often comes to rotten fruits that has fallen to the ground. It occurs with S.cambodia, however the species prefer to higher elevations.
For a long time, ssp.siamensis was thought to be the S.E. Thailand population. However, after examination of the type specimen in the NHML, I realized that the spear-shaped black markings on the UpF is not as well developed as in the S.E. Thailand population, and that the N. Thailand population corresponds to siamensis because of its shape. Thus I treat ssp.siamensis as the taxon of N. Thailand, and then the taxon from S.E. Thailand is currently unnamed. In addition, I suspect that this taxon could be a distinct species, based on its distribution and markings. Further taxonomic and distributional studies, including DNA analysis, are needed.
