The butterfly is locally not uncommon in primeval forests at low to moderate elevations (20–700 m a.s.l.) and is often found in dark forests.
The populations from Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, Surat Thani province, P. Thailand are closer to this taxon than the nominotypical subspecies. I tentatively treat it as ssp.berthae, even knowing that there are some differences. Further taxonomic study is needed.
