The butterfly is locally not rare in montane forests at moderate elevations.
The population in Luang Nam Tha, N.Laos is highly variable and the markings are unstable. The variation of males is quite similar to those of ssp.mehala in Myanmar, but females are different. The markings of ssp.kanlanpanus in Yunnan are stable. It seems to be intermediate between ssp.kanlanpanus and ssp.mahadeva. I tentatively treat it as ssp.kanlanpanus but further taxonomic study is needed.
