The butterfly is locally common in montane forests at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 350 - 700m) with a single generation in a year.
In flight, it mimics Euploea species (Danainae), especially Euploea mulciber, very well.
Males frequently come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
The populations in N.Thailand (Mae Hong Son to Chiang Mai) are very similar to the nominotypical subspecies of India.
However, further taxonomic studies, including DNA analysis, are needed.
Individuals with white submarginal spots on the hindwings are occasionally found in the Mae Hong Son population.
The markings of populations in Chiang Mai are more variable and unstable.
Some examples are much closer to ssp.marginata and seems to be a transition zone.
