The butterfly is not uncommon in montane forests at low to moderate elevations (300–900 m a.s.l.) and is often found at forest edges.
Males are occasionally observed mud-puddling along stream banks and at puddles.
Symbrenthia hippoclus is distinguishable from lilaea by only examination of the male genitalia.
