The butterfly is common in forests at low to moderate elevations (30–700 m a.s.l.). Males are territorial on shrubs and trees.
Both sexes are polymorphic. Females in Peninsular Thailand are generally of the Tanaecia form, and the continental form is rare. I tentatively treat all populations in P. Thailand as this taxon. Further taxonomic study is needed.
