Notes

The butterfly is uncommon in montane forests at low elevations (Alt. 30 - 150m). Both sexes visit flowers.
The specimen from Nakhon Si Thammarat shown above has the same genitalia as Pyroneura agnesia from W.Malaysia. However, the antenna shaft is not black like agnesia, but dusted with an indistinct yellow powder.
Eliot (1967:152) noted in the original description of agnesia, "In all three examples the valva has a simple apical projection (figs.6b, 7b), whereas in all examples of P. callineura examined from Borneo, Sumatra, Malaya and Burma the apical projection has its outer edge retracted, so that it appears thickened and three-sided. However I do not know whether to attach much significance to this feature, as both types of projection occur in Javanese P. callineura."
I suspect that Pyroneura agnesia agnesia could be a variation of Pyroneura callineura donatana. I tentatively treat it as callineura donatana. Further taxonomic study is needed.
