The butterfly is uncommon in montane forests at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 150 - 800m).
The record from Laos appears to be this taxon rather than Isma iapis.
The populations from the continental region of Indochina have been treated as ssp.bicolor.
However, they may be separate taxa from a biogeographical point of view.
Further taxonomic and distributional studies are needed.
