The butterfly is very rare in Thailand and only one male is known.
Ek-Amnuay,[2007] described Capila pauripunetata prasobsuki but this name is unavailable (nomen nudum) because no holotype was explicitly designated (ICZN Code art. 16.4.1) and no depository for the holotype stated (ICZN Code art. 16.4.2). Maruyama & Uehara,2008 moved prasobsuki to genus Pintara as "Pintara prasobsuki Ek-Amnuay, 2006 [sic]" and described a new subspecies Pintara prasobsuki lao Maruyama & Uehara, 2008 from Laos. Since the name prasobsuki Ek-Amnuay, [2007] is an unavailable nomen nudum the correct species name is Pintara lao Maruyama & Uehara, 2008.
The populations from Thailand and Vietnam appear to differ from the nominotypical subspecies. Further taxonomic study is needed.
