The distribution map of duranius and euthymius

The butterfly is not uncommon in montane forests at moderate to high elevations (Alt. 1,000–1,800 m). According to Brooks (1949: 258) and Nakamura (2021: 9), it occurs sympatrically with Enispe duranius in parts of Myanmar and Laos. Previously, the distribution of this species within Thailand was considered limited to the area around Chiang Mai city and eastwards; however, in 2026, its presence was confirmed in Mae Hong Son Province. The distributional ranges of these two species are therefore thought to overlap between Mae Hong Son and the area west of Chiang Mai city. Although no instances of strict sympatry at the exact same locality have yet been confirmed, it is expected to be recorded in the future. This species is distinguishable from E. duranius solely by examination of the genitalia. Consequently, records unsupported by genitalic dissection cannot be reliably utilized. Although several records exist from Chaiyaphum and Phetchabun provinces in north-central Thailand, the lack of genitalic examination leaves their specific identity uncertain; they could represent either this species or E. duranius. Therefore, further taxonomic and distributional studies are needed. The populations from Yunnan to N. Thailand are morphologically much closer to ssp. sychaeus than to the nominotypical subspecies, as Huang (2023: 103-104) pointed out.
