The butterfly is rare in montane forests at moderate to high elevations (Alt. 1300 - 2200m) and is sympatric with other species of Delias belladonna group such as belladonna, berinda, sanaca and patrua.
This taxon has a pronounced cline and is also highly variable.
The general trend is for northern populations to be brighter, with well-developed upper surface markings.
The markings are reduced as one moves south, with the darkest populations found in central and NE.Laos and N.Vietnam.
However, individual and small geographical variations are extremely significant, with a variety of individuals occurring even in close locations,
so the populations from northern Yunnan to Indochina are all treated as ssp.yunnana.
