The butterfly is locally very common in montane forests at moderate to high elevations (Alt. 1000 - 2200m) and is frequently found on top of mountains. Males are territorial on trees at hilltops and fly in circles for long hours in their territorial space, and occasionally come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
Godfrey,1930 recorded it from 'Chiang Dao', however it has not been confirmed since then at all. The populations in N.Vietnam have slightly different wing shapes, especially in N.E.Vietnam, with broader forewing and the tail is shorter and rod-shaped. It seems to be a transition to the population in Guangxi, China. In addition, the population from W.Thailand to Dawna range, S.Myanmar have similar shape of tail to those of ssp.nagamasai. Further taxonomic study and distributional research are needed.
