Notes
The butterfly is locally common in semi-dried forests at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 400 - 1300m) and is frequently found at hilltops.
Males are territorial on trees and often come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
Some individuals have yellowish ground color on the underside and are generally uncommon.
However this form occurs frequently in Sa Kaeo prov., E.Thailand.
A male specimen from Chiang Mai shown above as (var.) is rather strange.
Generally, the upperside of both wings have strong luster, but this specimen lacks it.
The Malaysian subspecies excellens is likely to be found in P.Thailand, especially in Yala.
The record of Godfrey,1932a,1932b from Koh Libong, Trang might be the Malaysian subspecies.
However I was unable to examine a specimen, therefore I provisionally treat it as the nominotypical subspecies.
Examples in peninsular Thailand need to be confirmed by specimens.
