Notes
The butterfly is common in montane forest at low to moderate elevations (Alt. 100 - 800m) and males are territorial on shrubs or undergrouwth.
Females of populations from the southern part of Tak, Kanchanaburi and Moulmein to Yala and W. Malaysia have extremely reduced white markings on the UpF.
However, there are highly individual and seasonal variations in both sexes in this region, and it is not possible to clearly distinguish Malaysian ssp.bougainvillei.
I tentatively follow the traditional classification here, however it is most likely ssp.bougainvillei would be a synonym of xiphiones.
Further taxonomic study is needed.
Very interestingly, in Tak province of W. Thailand, ssp.odilina is found in the north, and ssp.xiphiones in the south.
It seems to be a transition zone of both subspecies.
