The specimen from Thailand was previously thought to be Celaenorrhinus sumitra.
However, after examination of the specimen, it was confirmed as Celaenorrhinus motokii.
The taxon motokii is very similar in appearance to Celaenorrhinus sumitra.
The male motokii can be easily distinguished by the fact that the upper surface of its antennae is white from base to tip,
whereas the shaft of sumitra has a black and white chequered pattern.
The butterfly is very rare in Thailand.
Only one specimen is known from Nan.
Further distributional research is needed.
