Notes

The butterfly is uncommon in montane forests at moderate to high elevations (Alt. 1500 - 1800m).
Uehara & Masui (2024) suggested that this taxon seems to include a cryptic species. (see Celaenorrhinus pyrrha) They have different genitalia and slightly different markings. Assuming that these are phenotypes 1 (Lak Sao) and 2 (Xam Neua), the figure in the original description is likely to be phenotype 1, while the type specimen in Sheela et al. (2019) is likely to be phenotype 2. It is still unclear whether both species are sympatric from Bhutan to Assam. If they are sympatric, future classification will depend on which species is designated as the lectotype. Uehara & Masui assigned phenotype 1 (Lak Sao) to Celaenorrhinus pyrrha and phenotype 2 (Xam Neua) to Celaenorrhinus species. However, based on the type specimen of Sheela et al. (2019), I tentatively treat phenotype 2 (Xam Neua) as Celaenorrhinus pyrrha and phenotype 1 (Lak Sao) as Celaenorrhinus sp., contrary to them. Further taxonomic and distributional studies are needed.
