The butterfly is very localized and uncommon in montane forests at moderate elevations (Alt. 550 - 900m). Males frequently come to the banks of streams and puddles to suck water.
According to the records of Tsukiyama,1992, Chiba,2009 and Kimura et al.,2011, both ssp.stigmatus and ssp.caudatus have been found sympatrically in Chiang Mai province, N.Thailand. Further taxonomic and distributional studies, including DNA analysis, are needed.
